Mild-mannered (ha!) computer geek by day, trail blazing outdoors man the rest of the time. I am Lyttle Bryan G, and this is my website. I am a resident of East Tennessee and an avid hiker/backpacker. I created this site in June of 2009 to chronicle my adventures in the Great Smoky Mountains and beyond. Additionally I wanted to give people a resource that they could use to find information about trails and campsites that was written by one of their own.
Growing up in Southern Illinois I have always enjoyed the outdoors, but it wasn’t until I moved to Knoxville, Tennessee in January of 2008 that I discovered my love of the outdoors. I began hiking in the Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee in the fall of 2008 when I joined up with the Great Smokies Hiking and Adventure Group on Meetup.com. I remember after my first hike how much I truly loved it. From then on I spent almost every weekend and then some on the trails and in the campsites. I quickly went from just hiking and exploring to back country camping and backpacking. My enthusiasm and outgoing nature earned me a spot as an organizer for the Great Smokies Hiking and Adventure Group where I plan activities for our three hundred and some odd members. I still spend almost every weekend in the Smokies and still love it just as much as the first day I drove into the park through the Townsend Y.
I began this site in June of 2009 through a suggestion of a friend. I remember wanting to go to a new campsite and being frustrated with the lack of information about some specific ones. I figured there were probably more people like me out there, so I decided to use this site as a way to keep track of everything, and express my honest opinion of every trail, every campsite, and every creature.
I hope you enjoy my writing. I highly encourage and welcome all comments. If you like, feel free to email me at Bryan@AGeekInTheWoods.com

Nice job Bryan!
Good start for a yankee…… you going to need to post some pics on here and we may forget you are a yankee…..
Why thank you, Dale…I think that’s a compliment at least! Unfortunately my trusty Canon A520 went bottoms up a while back. No worries though, my new Olympus Tough-8000 will be here today!
Hey, your site is starting to take shape, the pics are a nice touch. Keep it up.
I found this site on a Whiteblaze link and just want to welcome you to east TN and to the many areas of backpacking around here. I live nearby and do most of my trekking south of the Smokies from Slickrock Creek to the Georgia state line around Ocoee. Let me know if you’re ever in the Citico/Slickrock area.

Oops! I mean a Backpacker.com thread, not Whiteblaze!
Hey Bryan,
Just found your site through a blog search for “Gatlinburg.” Great blog…enjoyed reading your chronicle of your Winter Virgin Falls Backpack trip (as well as the pictures of the falls)!
Just added your feed to my RSS reader–looking forward to keeping up with your Smokies adventures!
Best,
Scott S.
