Welcome to A Geek in the Woods. This blog is about what happens when a geek gets up from in front of his computer screen to find out if there really are bears outside (there are!). I plan to use this blog as a way of chronicling my adventures in hiking and backpacking as well as providing a means for people to get informational reviews on trails, campsites, and occasionally new gear that I just cannot shut up about. When I began backpacking I found it was quite frustrating to pick out a new backcountry campsite. The Little Brown Book (LBB) sometimes has information, but often it is limited to “Campsite 123 is along this trail.” Therefore I decided to put some information out there for others to reference. I welcome and encourage all useful commentary.
